Triathlon success for William
Year 9 student William Eccleston, whose success in winning the North West Triathlon (running, swimming, pistol shooting) was featured on this website in September, competed in the British Triathlon Finals during half term. Athletes who had qualified from all over the UK converged on Birmingham and William walked away with the Bronze medal.
William, who attends Blackpool Athletics Club and is trained by Alan and Greg Seddon, started the competition with an impressive 1500m run. His time of 4 minutes 40seconds was a 13second personal best and placed him third. The next event was the pistol shoot. William attends Rossall MPC for his shooting and a score of 71 out of 100 which, while impressive, dropped his overall position to fifth. Finally, William finished with a reliable and impressive 100m swim to pull his overall position back to third and be awarded the Bronze medal.
As a result of this success, Pentathlon GB have invited William to attend their World Class Talent Camps with a view to gaining access to their World Class Talent Programme. This is designed to support athletes in all five of the Pentathlon disciplines - running, swimming, pistol shooting, fencing and show jumping and give athletes the opportunity to compete internationally.
Good luck to William for the future.
