Summer Concert of tunes and talent
Another very appreciative audience gathered in the Memorial Hall this week for our annual Summer Concert.
The Junior Wind Band got the evening off to a fine start with ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ and other ensembles included a recently formed woodwind group and the Brass ensemble.
After the interval the thirty strong school choir performed Seiber’s three Hungarian Folk Songs and the Girls’ choir then gave a lively rendition of ‘California Dreamin’.
Senior musicians performed solos including Michael Wells (Baritone), Victoria Taylor (Clarinet), Stephanie Darkins (Voice) and Rebecca Tribick (Voice). The last three pupils leave at the end of term after making a major contribution to the success of school music over many years. The audience was also treated to a very special performance from Pui Yan Lam who played the Chinese instrument, the YanQin.
The evening was rounded off brilliantly by the Senior Swing Band who left the stage to a standing ovation. With a glass of wine, and strawberries and cream, what a fine way to enjoy a summer's evening of music.
Well done to all pupils involved!
