Another busy day on the rugby fields
Despite the poor October weather, four recent rugby matches produced some impressive performances.
The 1st XV began their Daily Mail Cup campaign with 57-17 win over local rivals, Baines School. Nine tries were scored with 22 boys involved in the game. Nick Costello scored a good hat trick and Chris West hit some nice lines in the centre to cross for a brace of tries. Other tries were scored by right winger, Alex Walkden, and forwards Tom Fox, Michael Carter and Joe Blanthorn.
Mr McKeown's U16s continued their good start to the season with a 29-10 win over QEGS Blackburn 1st XV. Playing against physically bigger boys, who were in some cases two years older, did not intimidated the Arnold side, which played some fast, flowing rugby. Kevin Wan, Dewi Morgan and Tom Eyre crossed for tries with another coming via a penalty try.
The U15B and U14B teams played against the QEGS Blackburn A teams. The U15B lost a no-nonsense, physical encounter 12-0. Sam Neill, Bowen Feng and Alex Fowler played especially well and there were some nice touches by Jake Mullen and Ryan Hodgson in the forwards.
The U14B XV lost by 3 tries to 1 in a 17-7 scoreline. Tom Hammond crossed for the teams only try.
