Last term Mrs Thornton travelled to St Petersburg to sit her International Fencing Referees examination. Candidates from all over the world were gathered for a series of seminars followed by video and theory examinations.
Just getting to St Petersburg was a saga in itself, and OA James Thornton was pressed into overnight service to queue at the Russian Embassy to acquire the necessary visa in time.
The International Fencing Federation sets tough standards for passing the examinations and Mavis was the only candidate to pass in St Petersburg. Many congratulations to Mavis!
