Robin Who?
A report in the Daily Mirror reads.
A little-known actor has been chosen by the BBC to play Robin Hood in its new £8million Saturday night family drama. Old Arnoldian Jonas Armstrong beat off established names, including Shameless star James McAvoy, to play the prince of thieves.
An insider said: “Jonas has the looks to melt the hearts of a thousand Maid Marians. He’s a dreamboat and a great actor.” Six-foot Irishman Jonas, who was brought up in St Anne’s, Lancashire, has appeared in Channel 4 crime drama Ghost Squad and in Teachers.
Robin Hood will have the same tea-time slot as Doctor Who – and Beeb Chiefs want Armstrong to sign a deal of up to five years after Christopher Eccleston quit as the Time Lord following one series. The new version of the Sherwood Forest legend will be filmed in Budapest, Hungary.
It will be the first time the BBC has dramatised the tale. ITV has made two Robin Hood series. Richard Greene was in the role from 1955 to 1960 while Jason Connery succeeded Michael Praed in the last version from 1984-86.
