On Sunday, Mr Evans took part in his last official warm-up race before his attempt at the UK Ironman in September. The Bala Middle Distance Triathlon was bathed in near tropical conditions which was nice for the spectator, but difficult for the 400+ triathletes attempting one of the top 10 most difficult triathlons in the UK.
This year's triathlon had seen a slight course change with the notorious 50 mile bike leg now even more gruelling after the 2000m swim. It usually involves roughly 1800ft of climbing. Sadly, this year for the competitors it had been nearly doubled to over 3200ft! The bike section was then followed by one of the toughest half marathon courses in any competition with an undulating out and back course which included 6 brutal hills.
Mr Evans competed the course in 6hrs 3mins; 46 minutes for the swim; just over 3 hours for the cycle; and 1hr 48mins for the half marathon.
After his 3hrs 42mins in the Sorbothane Sponsored Blackpool Marathon in April and the recent St Annes Triathlon in May, he will now concentrate on just over 11 weeks of training before he departs for Sherborne in Dorset.
Mr Evans would like to thank everyone who has donated to this good cause so far. Your generous support has been instrumental in supporting the Wooden Spoon charity.
