As expected this event proved to be one of our most successful and a splendid evening was enjoyed by over 200 guests at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool. True to form guests were treated to the red carpet treatment with a champagne reception in the Louis Room, after which they went on to enjoy a delicious candlelit traditional Christmas Dinner.
Celebrity crooner, Howard Swing turned a few heads with the ladies as he smoothed his way around the tables inviting one or two to join him in a singalong; X Factor judges - watch out! After dinner, a game of heads and tails saw a lucky winner take away a Champagne meal for two, in the Imperial's Palm Court Restaurant. The raffle also proved a success with guests winning a total of 21 fabulous prizes which were kindly donated by parents and local businesses.
Not for retiring early, partygoers enjoyed late night dancing into the early hours to the latest sounds of Mr DJ, Sid Eccles
Once again the hardworking team of Arnold Parents' and Friends' Association produced a stunning evening, roll on the Summer Ball!
Santa arrived early at Arnold School, much to the delight of the children, for the PFA Christmas Fayre. The occasion was most successful, with many favourable remarks received on not only the welcoming atmosphere throughout the School but also the wide array of stalls and activities which were available, with something for everyone. From the children's side stalls, face painting, ABC stall to the market stalls, tombolas, Christmas refreshments and Santa's grotto, School was soon full of the merriment of our families and visitors. The quality of entertainment provided by the Junior School choir and the Senior School soul band and year 10 musicians was also commented upon and most warmly received. Winner of the Grand Draw 1st prize was year 5 pupil Edward Farrer. His grandad had purchased the winning ticket for the BMW Cruise Bike Junior.
An event such as this relies on a great deal of help, time and support being provided from a wide range of resources, all working together to achieve this success. A team of students willingly provided a major contribution to the Fayre. On the Saturday morning, the stallholders were delighted with the warm welcome they received from the Year 11 boys :- Matthew Cotton, Mark Atkins, Tobias Cleaver-Ross, Andrew Davies, Kevin Wan, Nick Smith, MJ Phipps, Alex Parker, Thomas & Michael Yaxley and Alex Garrod, who assisted with the transference of their merchandise from the 6th form car park to the Memorial Hall. The boys' beaming smiles, willingness, behaviour and display of good manners were repeatedly commented upon. They remained in school throughout the day running children's games and stalls and helped return the school to normality at the end of the Fayre, not leaving until late afternoon. Emily Jeffery and Portia Williams also assisted with the children's games and stalls, whilst Elliot Swallow ran the chocolate tombola and Charlotte Lane and Olivia Robertson, the Christmas pudding stall. In his grotto, Santa was assisted, once again, by his Christmas "helpers" Olivia Powell, Grace Foy, Sarah Broadhurst and Fiona Stapleton. Several of the students were also in School on the Friday evening assisting with the layout and setting up of the Fayre.

Many skills are needed to ensure complete success is assured when a major PFA event is being organised. The overwhelming success of the 2008 Christmas Fayre proved beyond doubt that those skills were very much in evidence. Our most grateful thanks are extended to each and everyone of you who in whatever way contributed towards the Fayre's success. It is very heartening to know that whenever help is required, such help is so readily forthcoming.
The PFA committee take this opportunity of wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2009.

Witches, wizards and their ghoul friends from the Infant School gathered for this annual event. With prizes for the best costumes and pumpkins, dancing and games from CJ Tazz made for a truly spooktacular evening.

The annual family walk at Brockholes in the Lake District took place on Sunday 21stSeptember and , once again, the event was well attended by parents and children, new and old.
A cup of coffee and hearty scone, jam and clotted cream put everyone in the mood to embark on one of the guided walks. After a warm welcome by Mr Culpan on behalf of the school, everyone was ready for the off. Some chose to complete the Wain Lane circular walk, whilst the rest took the Windermere Lake Cruises' launch to Waterhead Pier, Ambleside to begin a brisk walk up to Jenkins Cragg. This gave an opportunity to take in the spectacular views over Lake Windermere and Wray Castle before dropping back down to Brockholes.
Once back everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch, with the ever energetic children taking advantage of the adventure play area. Most then enjoyed a ride on the Arnoldian, an ex naval launch commanded by Mr Lawson - a memorable occasion as the boat is soon to be de-commissioned.
Thank you to everyone who took part and made the day the excellent occasion it was.
The Woodland Suite at Ribby Hall was the scene of a Motown revival as parents and friends enjoyed the post dinner dance to the music of The American Four Tops. Their set of magical Motown hits was the perfect climax to an evening celebrating a successful school year of fun and fundraising organised by the Parents' and Friends' Association.
A delightful meal was followed by the first draw of the Arnold Monthly Draw (AMD), a game of heads and tails and a raffle with an amazing array of prizes, generously donated by families and local businesses. Click read more for more photographs.
A most sincere thank you to all those parents, pupils and friends who contributed in whatever way towards supporting the bottle tombola, bric-a-brac, book and cake stalls and with cream teas being served from the pavilion. Thanks especially to those members of the PFA who worked throughout the day.
The cake stall was undoubtedly our best seller! Mrs Woodman and Mrs Webster had baked and created the most stunning array of iced buns, cakes and meringues, to which the children were also able to lend their hands by decorating some in their own unique way. A fun day for us all!
During 2008, the PFA has held three very successful sales, enabling parents to buy and sell good quality second hand uniform. The sales have been well supported by both buyers and sellers alike and the range of uniform on sale has increased as the event has become more established.
Our next New To You will be held in the Spring term, with items at 50% of their ‘new' selling price!
