GB Biathlon news
Many congratulations to our biathletes who, at the weekend, competed in the GB Pentathlon Biathlon Semi-Final at Macclesfield. Having submitted entries earlier in the year, their presence in the event was more than justified.
In the Year 8 Boys event, Samuel Matthews finished with the second fastest swim and run to score 2746 points and finish in an outstanding second place overall. Although twin brother Thomas was unable to compete due to injury, the Preece brothers, Kyle and Callum, finished 15th and 22nd respectively to secure first place for Arnold in the team event with 6276 points, just 36 points ahead of the runners-up.
In addition, William Eccleston competed extremely well in the Year 10 event, finishing 8th in the swim and 3rd in the run to gain 2164 points, and to also finish in second place overall. Indeed, a similar theme was maintained as Lucy Whalley, competing in the Year 10 Girls competition, also finished in second place. Lucy was placed 5th in the swim and 2nd in the run to score a total of 2226 points overall.
Not to be outdone, Ciarra Barcock competed in the Year 7 Girls event and, although finishing 10th in the run, a strong swim enabled her to finish fourth overall with 2210, equal on points with the third placed competitor.
With these outstanding performances, all six athletes have qualified for the National Finals to be held at Crystal Palace on 25th March 2012.
Very well done to you all.
Mr Jones
