Veterans Day
An estimated 10,000 people, many proudly waving Union Jacks, took to the Promenade as the Duchess of Cornwall arrived to officially launch National Veterans Day 2008 last Friday and our CCF cadets were on hand to help to direct veterans to the various events that were taking place.
It was quite clear that a bit of inclement weather was in no way going to deter the veterans, who had no doubt experienced far worse during their lives.
As the picture shows, Sgt Bernard Lewis of the East Lancashire Regiment, who served in the army from 1958, was extremely pleased to meet our cadets, Prateek Akhoury, Peter Deuchars and John Ashcroft, and was willing to share some of his memories with them.
The East Lancashire Regiment is now part of the new Duke of Lancaster's Regiment which had new Colours presented last Thursday by Her Majesty.
