2008

It was another successful day at the hugely popular and successful St Annes Triathlon.

Mr Evans organised a squad of over 60 boys, girls, staff and parents and each and every person performed remarkably well over the tough course.

For the third year in succession the school swept the board in the best school categories:

Best Overall Fylde School - most entries

In addition to winning these trophies, there were also some very impressive individual and team performances.

In the Tri Youth race, Alex Garrod and Ben Blake came 4th and 5th respectively with Jenny Carpenter 4th in the Tri Youth Girls race. A special mention must go to Santiago, our Spanish Language Assistant, who came 3rd in the Adult Junior Event in a wonderful time of 1hr and 58 seconds!

2007

The second Aegon St Annes Triathlon saw Arnold School?s squad perform superbly in perfect conditions. Approximately 400 people took part in the triathlon with Arnold providing close to 70 competitors in all age-groups, and winning 7 trophies overall. With their massive number of entries, both from the Junior and Senior Schools, they were crowned the Best Fylde Junior School and the Best Fylde Secondary School for the second year running.

8 year old Camryn Spector was the first girl in the youngest age-group. Her overall time of 12 minutes and 47 seconds claimed victory in the Tristart category after a good run-leg. In the TriStar 1 age group, Arnold had 10 boys taking part and it was Abhinav Bhatia who finished the highest in 10th place in a time of 27:24. Henry Higson, Matthew Garrod and Alex Holt also performed well. In the girls? TriStar 1, Francesca Bebby, Katie Lawson and Annabella Kenworthy were all well placed.

There was double delight in the boys? TriStar 2 category for 11 and 12 year olds. Alex Evans finished in a time of 27:20 to take second place and his team which also consisted of Andrew Walkden and Harrison Kenworthy, took the first placed prize for the Best Boys? Team in that age-group. Christopher Bottomley and Robert Smyth also performed extremely well. The Arnold girls were not to be out done as their team of Charlotte Evans, Aimee Wilkinson and Courtney Spector beat all comers to take the girls? team award in the same age-group.

In the 13-14 year old category, TriStar 3, the Arnold boys did magnificently. The impressive Alex Garrod was first home for Arnold as he came 6th in 35:30 and with James Cave and Ben Blake coming 7th and 8th respectively, the Arnold boys took the Boys? Team Award in the this age group as well. Ali Humphries came a fine 10th and there was more Arnold success as they took second and third places in the boys team awards. The team of Michael Yaxley, James Aird and Sam Crowther came second. The good performances continued with the girls in Tristar 3 with Heather Bottomley the most promising performer. Her fine swim of 8:25 set the stage for an overall time of 42:48 as she came 4th, with Jenny Carpenter only one place back in 5th in a time of 48:27.

In the Youth age-group for 15 and 16 year olds, the team prizes kept rolling in as the team of James Craigen, Liam Hill and Jonathan Wells displayed talent in all three disciplines to win the Boys? Team award. In fact, there were four Arnold boys in the top 10. James Craigen finished in 44:28 in 7th, with Liam Hill 8th in 46:22 and James Cockerill 9th with 47:23. Tim Maguire came 10th and there were good performances by Matthew Strutte and Edward Sawer. Jessica North and Sophie Davis were also impressive in the girls? event.

The Adult race provided the most difficult challenge for some of Arnold?s older students. Nick Trangmar and Lydia McNulty all finished in under 2 hours as the gruelling 400m swim, 20k bike and 5k run took its toll with the hot weather conditions sapping the energy. A time of 1hr 38mins was had by Year 11 pupil Alex Walkden and fellow class-mate Jamie Baguley was not far behind in 1hr 40mins. Tom Whiteoak was Arnold?s highest placed student in a superb 1hr 24mins with his swim time of 8:02 one of the fastest of the day. There was also some extra added incentives for the Arnold boys and girls as six of the Arnold staff decided to take the challenge with all completing the race, with some even out-performing their students!

2006

2006 saw some of Arnold School's boys and girls have their first taste of one of Britain's fastest growing sports - Triathlon!

Close to 30 boys and girls (and some staff!) took part in the hugely successful Aegon St Annes Sprint Triathlon in June 2006.

Distances varied for the swim, bike and run depending on the age-groups but all of the Arnold boys and girls did astonishingly well.
