On Sunday the 1st VII made their annual trip to the CCF Rugby 7s tournament, which this year was held at HMS Sultan in Portsmouth. Teams from all over the UK were competing and the Arnold boys did not disappoint as they reached the main final.
In their group they beat the Oratory School 40-0. Peter Armstrong scored a devastating hat trick with Chris West, Nick Costello and Julian Richardson also on the scoresheet. This was followed by a 10-10 draw against Campbell College from Ulster. Armstrong was again amongst the scorers, as was Nick Costello.
Seaford College were beaten 35-7 and then Greshams 19-0, as Wilf Whittle and Liam Hill scored tries. This set up a final against Campbell College, which was just one game too far for Arnold as they lost by 15-7. Peter Armstrong’s fifth try of the day was not enough despite some fine play by the whole squad.
In the U13 Lancashire Cup, the U13A team were in superb form as they ran out winners by 46-0 against Lytham HS. Arnold were 29-0 at the break as tries from Mitchell Bolus, Sam Walton, Jake Higson, Richard Whiteside and Ned Whittle put Arnold well clear. Nick Wright added to the score after the break and there were two late tries for Declan Humphries and Richard Whiteside.
