Goodbye and thank you for everything
The final day of term saw four long serving colleagues go into well deserved retirement.
After twelvevery busy years, and following a recent period of serious ill health, Mrs Lawson leaves us having made a big difference to the lives of our youngest children.
Felicity (pictured left below) joined the school in 1995 after teaching experiences in several maintained schools. Always keen to look beyond the confines of private education in seeking the best models to bring to her teaching and her administrative responsibilities, she has made a huge contribution to the development of the Junior School. The Kindergarten was officially opened in January 1996 and from the beginning Felicity was dedicated to providing the very best care and education for children during their early years and was quick to recognise the possibilities of expansion when the facilities were improved in 2001. As a member of the Senior Management Team her depth of experience and considered judgement have been greatly appreciated and in recent years she trained as a school inspector. The recent excellent inspection report on the Kindergarten owed a great deal to Felicity's hard work, thorough preparation and attention to detail. Her expertise in music and drama has also been well utilised in the Infant Department, and her characteristically positive approach has been enjoyed by the children in her care, who view her with respect and affection. Her work has been much appreciated and her influence will be missed. Good Luck from us all.
Hilary Hallowell joined the Senior School eleven years ago from Longridge High School and in her time at Arnold, as well as teaching Biology extremely well, she has been involved in a huge range of activities from charity fund raising to drama, from music to Animal Club, from Chess Club to the Choir – the list goes on. Hilary is a happy, cheerful and positive person who will be much missed, particularly by the younger pupils who have a great affection for her. Hilary farewell and thank you.
Charlie Woodruff came to Arnold from De La Salle College in 1979. Having said in his letter of application that he intended to stay for two or three years before moving on, he departs with 28 years service under his belt! A Chartered Chemist and teacher of Design the long list of things Charlie has been involved with outside the classroom include rugby, DofE, Science Club, boys’ hockey, tennis, athletics, field trips to Glenridding, trips overseas, school discos and school productions. Charlie also had the dubious pleasure of being in charge of lost property - for 10 years! Charlie has made a difference to the lives of so many young people. We are very grateful.
We also say goodbye and thank you to Linda Pritchard, our long serving and dedicated Matron, who also retires. We wish her all the very best and hope that she will now have the time to enjoy her many grandchildren.
Schools are living organisms, of course, and as children join and then leave so do our staff and in the autumn we shall welcome some new colleagues to the Common Room.
