Remploy Citizenship Award

Three of our pupils have been busy helping those less fortunate than themselves and have been rewarded for their efforts by Remploy.

The Remploy Citizenship Award Scheme involves recognition awards and financial benefits to both schools and individual pupils for a period of at least five years. Remploy would like to work more closely with their customers to raise disability awareness and reward those who take responsible action and make worthwhile contributions to the community.

Sixth Former Adam Walker was the winner for his work with 'Fylde Families' which is a partnership between Fylde Primary Care NHS Trust and Social Services Directorate.

When he was in Year 9 Adam helped a family with a child who was suffering from cerebral palsy and he followed this by working in an animal sanctuary before, in the summer of 2005, registering as a volunteer with 'Supporting Fylde Families Service'.

As part of his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award service he began work with Fylde Otters which is a swimming club for the disabled. After a year he decided not to continue there due to his A Level commitments and because he felt that his time would be better spent helping at 'Fylde Families' where he had been helping two boys with Tourette's Syndrome.

Sophie Parker of Year 11 pupil has been involved with the charity Development of Women and Children Centre, Nepal for some time now. So far she has been skydiving, car washing, 'bacon butty' making and on the 1st July she will help to organise a Family Fun Day. In August she will travel to Kathmandu for the opening of the school for which she has raised money and will then spend a month teaching English.

For the past two years she has been working in the Sue Ryder shop every Saturday, and she keeps busy on Sundays by working as a Youth Leader in the 'after-church' club!

And in third place young Tom McLeod of Year 7 is making a CD to help raise funds for the Bond Hotel, a project that hopes to build a bigger hotel for disabled people.

All three are worthy recipients of their awards.
