Psychology Coursework Residential trip
The L6 Psychology students set off for the Coursework Residential trip on Sunday 1st July, accompanied by Mrs Christine Davis, Head of Psychology, and her husband Dr Mike Davis. This year, the trip was based at Keele University and they were joined by the boys from Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood and two of their teachers, Mrs Hilary English, Head of Psychology (OA) and Mr Pat Capel.
Needless to say there was much trepidation and anticipation amongst both sets of students as they were thrown into Team Building exercises on the first day of the course, but this soon disappeared as the students got to know each other.
The second day was spent collecting data for their research, resulting in all of the students achieving large enough samples to analyse their data during the ‘stats’ lecture.
By Tuesday, the students had well and truly integrated and it was not unusual to see mixed groups from both schools spending time together, both in and out of the classroom. Tuesday night, our last night at Keele, was party night and everyone joined in a quiz (made up of teams from both schools) ate pizza and received awards for their efforts e.g. award for best leggings, Danielle Baltazar.
All too soon it was Wednesday morning and time to leave for home. After exchanging email addresses and phone numbers we waved goodbye to the Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood boys with promises of keeping in touch and requests for more joint ventures of this kind.
It was a pleasure to work with our students and the boys from Merchant Taylors’ School, and I hope that we can repeat it next year. We may return to Keele, but only if they promise not to feed us with jacket potatoes at every meal!
