Psychology
Head of Department: Miss L J Hanson
Psychology is the study of the mind and its processes, this may seem a daunting task if you are parents of teenagers! It is however a very rewarding subject that gives us an insight to ourselves.
Psychology is offered at both AS and A2 levels. The topics covered at AS are Memory, Attachments in Childhood, Stress, Abnormality (Eating Disorders), Social Influence and Research Methods. In the A2 syllabus, Module 4 covers Relationships, Pro and Anti-Social Behaviour, Social and Personality Development, while Module 5 investigates Cultural Differences and Ethical Issues as well as Approaches to Psychology.
In Module 6, pupils complete a piece of coursework which consists of practical and written work. Pupils decide on a topic for investigation, research the topic and previous related studies, plan and run an experiment and write a 2000 word report.
To help them with this task, and the rest of their A level psychology studies, a website has been constructed by five schools in the North West of England, including Arnold. Pupils log on to the site www.psyonline.org.uk and are able to access relevant internet sites as well as gaining valuable information on how to complete essays, tackle exams, approach coursework and much more.
