Pat joined the Royal Navy in October 1971. On completion of basic training he served in HM Ships KENT, MATAPAN and DEVONSHIRE,; following advancement to Petty Officer in 1977 he served as an Instructor at the Royal Naval Supply School in Chatham and the frigate AURORA before joining BRNC DARTMOUTH in Sep 79.

On promotion to Sub Lieutenant, Pat served in a variety of appointments before joining HMS JUPITER as the Supply Officer in Oct 85; in Dec 86, now in the rank of Lieutenant Commander, he transferred to HMS CHARYBDIS until Oct 88. This was followed by appointments to the Saudi Armed Forces Project, the Second Sea Lord’s personal staff as Assistant Secretary and in the aircraft carrier HMS INVINCIBLE.

Following promotion to Commander in December 1991 he returned to the MOD in London. In 1994 he joined HMS COLLINGWOOD as the Finance Director and in his final appointment served as the Command Supply Officer to the Second Sea Lord and Commander in Chief Naval Home Command from October 1997 to July 2001.

Following retirement from the Royal Navy, Pat his wife Lesley and son James moved to Thornton and joined Arnold as the Vice Principal Administration in August 2001 and as Bursar in November 2003. As the Bursar, Pat is responsible for managing the non-teaching aspects of the School including Finance, Personnel Administration, Catering, Grounds, Caretaking, Security, Cleaning, Reprographics and Building Services. He is also the Company Secretary for Arnold Schools Limited and a number of subsidiary companies.
