Family Day in the Lakes 2006

Whilst Blackpool suffered a Sunday morning storm, those parents and friends who made their way to Brockhole Visitor Centre on Windermere on Sunday enjoyed a, largely, dry and sunny day.

The group had achoice of either joining the Wain Lane walk or the Jenkins Crag walk. Coincidentally, both sets of walkers met each other at the top of their respective walks and in fine spirits commenced the descent together.

After picnic lunches, the afternoon afforded a trip onboard the School’s launch, the Arnoldian; thanks are due to Mr Lawson and his two L6th crew members for facilitating this. Children derived much pleasure from paddling on the shores of Lake Windermere or playing in the adventure playground. Another super day in the Lakes!

Summer Ball 2006

The highlight of the summer term was our Summer Ball held in the Woodlands Suite at Ribby Hall, Wrea Green. On a warm summer’s evening Parents & Friends arrived to have their photographs taken by Mr Bell and enjoy a Bellini reception on the terrace whilst listening to the delightful music and singing, provided by Mr Ross, Callum Au, John Dopping-Hepenstal and Stephanie Darkins.

Guests entered the main function suite by candlelight; the room looked stunning with the floral decorations adorning the room dressed by Margaret Mason of Friargate, Preston. A sumptuous meal was served by Nigel Smith and fully lived up to the reputation of Ribby Hall. Our raffle was most successful; first prize being a week’s half board at a chateau in Normandy, courtesy of Travelbound. Following dinner and back by very popular demand, Colours performed their stunning cabaret. Late night dancing to the cool sounds of Dave Ward continued into the early hours, with a breakfast served at 1.00am.

A memorable and highly successful evening was enjoyed by everyone attending and we thank you for your support.

Christmas Fayre 2006

Once again, the occasion was enjoyed by both children and adults alike.

Visitors could try their skills at many different activities and games. Snag Golf, arranged by Daniel Webster, Golf Professional at St Annes Old Links Golf Course, was very popular as were Tin Can Alley, Roll 2ps and Christmas Island. Santa’s Grotto was another popular area, with children able to have their picture taken with our jolly red guest.

Adults were able to browse the many and varied Christmas stalls in the Memorial Hall, whilst being entertained by school musicians and Scream Theatre School.

Blackpool’s town crier, Mr Barry McQueen, opened the Fayre and was accompanied by Old Arnoldian and former Head Girl, Jenna-Louise Coleman, aka Jasmine Thomas in Emmerdale. Refreshments were served in the main foyer and the Grand Christmas Draw was launched.

A great many parents, friends, staff and pupils both contributed to and supported the event and to each and every one of you, we give you our sincere thanks.

Over 200 Parents and Friends attended the Christmas Party Night held at the D Vere Hotel, Heron’s Reach. On arriving at the top of the long driveway to the hotel, guests were met by the glittering Christmas lights, illuminating the clock tower and trees, which made for a truly festive greeting. The pre-dinner drinks reception was held in the St Andrew’s bar before dinner was served in the sumptuous and candle lit Heron’s suite. Throughout the evening, entertainment was provided by “Hip Hip Two Rays” and a disco followed until 1.00am.
