Governance
In June 2008 Arnold School merged with the United Church Schools Trust (UCST). The Trust, which manages a Group of notable schools, is an educational charity which was founded in 1883 with the specific purpose of providing for pupils a sound education based on and inspired by Christian principles. It is an Anglican foundation and its patrons are the Archbishops of Canterbury and of York.
As well as Arnold, the schools in the Group are Ashford School, Bournemouth Collegiate School, Caterham School, Guildford High School, Hampshire Collegiate School, Hull Collegiate School, Lincoln Minster School, Sunderland High School and Surbiton High School. At the moment, only Arnold, Ashford, Caterham, Guildford and Surbiton are in membership of HMC. Through its subsidiary, the United Learning Trust, UCST has also opened several City Academies with more planned to open soon.
Arnold is a locally managed school with its own Local Governing Body. Lord Carey chairs the central Council (Board) of UCST on which the Chairman of the Local Governing Body represents the School. Therefore, whilst it remains very much a "local" school, Arnold benefits from its partnership with the schools in UCST and looks forward to seeing this relationship mature and evolve - making Arnold all the stronger in the face of continued threats and challenges to independent education.
