Matches against the Old Arnoldians are always eagerly anticipated by School 1st Team players and Sunday was no different.
The netballers were the first off in what proved to be a very close contest. With the scores just about level at half time experience, and some fresh legs began to tell and the OA team pulled away to a deserved 28-23 win.
The hockey and rugby both started at midday, which was still possibly a little early for some of the players who had attended the reunion party the night before, but both games were played at a tremendous pace.
The hockey was a fast end to end game with neither side able to dominate possession. The OA side were obviously lacking fluidity at times due to the change of personnel and people playing out of their normal position. However they were very strong in attack and gave the School side a very tough match. It looked as if a draw was going to be the fair result but some good skill and pace by the School forwards saw them score the winning goal late on in the match for a 4-3 victory.
The rugby match was a great spectacle with both teams playing an open running game. It was played in a very hard but fair manner and for most of the first half the teams were evenly matched. The second half was a slightly different story as the OA's were able to use their bigger physical strength to score tries from close to the line which the boys were never going to be able to stop. The final score of 29-15 to the OA's is slightly flattering but the School side can be justly proud of the contribution to a tremendously entertaining game.
