A good first week back

The aim of the longer half term break is to allow all members of the community to "recharge their batteries" in readiness for the run up to Christmas and I am confident that has happened.  The pupils have quickly settled back into a hard working routine and I know they are focused on achieving their goals, not least our public examination classes. A good set of results on the sports field this morning has brought a very positive first week of the half term to a close.

I had the good fortune to referee our 2nd XV against KEQMS this morning and, once again, our boys showed what a group of fine young men they are. In a tough encounter they gave an extremely good account of themselves, accepting every decision without complaint, and simply getting on with the game. This is not unusual at Arnold and it is something that we should cherish in an age when to question authority seems to be the norm.

Preparations for our Christmas production, Grease, are well in hand and I encourage everyone to get a ticket while they can.  If the rehearsals are anything to go by, the show is sure to be of the highest quality. You can also catch our musicians at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom next week - details are available on the calendar section of the website.

I am pleased to say that I recently appointed Mr. Snell's replacement; Miss Faye Horrocks will take over as our new Head of Drama in January. Faye was the outstanding candidate in a strong field and I anticipate Arnold drama going from strength to strength under her leadership. Head of Geography, Mr. Lee, has decided to retire at the end of this academic year and I must now seek his successor.

I am away next week inspecting another school, but before I do my wife and I will be at Blackpool Cenotaph with our cadets as we take part in the Service of Remembrance. I know we will be very proud of all those Arnoldians who have given up their Sunday to be there.
