Many hands make light work
I have found inspiration this week in the Junior School and Kindergarten. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the infant play, The Towering Turnip, and was struck by the way that our three infant year groups worked so well together. This creative and colourful production, itself a moral about the importance of teamwork, was the culmination of weeks of imaginative collaboration by our infants. I was highly impressed by the first-rate acting, the high quality props, the fantastic music and the persuasive advertising for the show... all created by four hard-working teams of pupils. I was also honoured to be sitting next to Arnold Bear, our beloved Junior School mascot whose new blog is causing such a stir amongst our youngest pupils.
As a passionate Arsenal FC supporter, I was delighted to witness the Junior School turning red on Friday. Sadly for Arsenal it was not because the pupils had changed their football allegiances, but was actually a highly successful 'Do something funny for money' fundraiser in support of Comic Relief. Cake sales across the whole school were extremely profitable and the children entered into the spirit of this worthwhile cause. Our Heads of School joined me at the Kindergarten for 'Comic Relief coffee and cakes', which was very well supported by parents. The children looked fantastic with their painted faces and they particularly enjoyed the party games, especially 'pass the parcel'. Smiles and laughter galore!
There was much jubilation on Saturday when Lucy Smith from Year 10 beat 11 other finalists to win 'Fylde's Got Talent 2011' with her amazing performances of 'Don't Rain on my Parade' from the musical Funny Girl and Leona Lewis's 'Run'. Lucy has got a busy few months ahead of her. As well as winning a raft of prizes, she will also perform at the Lytham Proms Festival Weekend on the same night as Boyzone. This is a stunning achievement - very well done indeed. You can buy tickets to watch Lucy (and Boyzone of course) on 7th August by clicking here.
I know that hundreds of you have snapped up tickets for tonight's concert from the Arnold Choral Society, which is made up of talented pupils, parents, teachers, friends and OAs. I have to say that I am particularly looking forward to hearing Lauren Au and Robert Brocklehurst perform before they leave us in summer to take up choral scholarships at Oxford and Cambridge. After all, it's not every school that revels in Sixth Form soloists of such calibre.
The next Arnold musical extravaganza will take place at the start of May. Our annual 'Evening of Swing' is always a lively affair and we will send ticket details to you by Parentmail in the near future. This will be a popular event; don't miss it.
Best wishes
