"The best trip ever"
What a wonderful day, with multiple learning opportunities had by us all (adults included)!
Year 5 went to Lytham by train from Blackpool Pleasure Beach Station. Having looked at the timetable and decided which train would get us to Lytham for 10am, we left school to walk to the station. We estimated that it might take us 15 minutes. In actual fact it took less than five. Once we arrived in Lytham we walked to Pizza Express, where we designed and made our own pizzas. We learnt about what dough is made from, what temperature the pizzas are baked at, and the different ways to knead dough in order to make our bases as crispy as possible.
We then worked on our own dough pieces, creating a 'perfect base'. On to that we added a special tomato sauce base. Once this was completed we chose our toppings. Some very brave people tried jalapeno peppers before adding them to their design. Matthew found his jalapeno extremely tasty! Congratulations to Bethany for being prepared to try anything. We had a wide range of toppings to choose from - chicken, ham, red pepper, sweet pepper, jalapeno pepper, olives, mushrooms, onion and Tuna (to name but a few).
Whilst the children's pizzas were baking, the adults had their turn. Mrs Cowburn, Mrs Cretney, Mrs Hine and Mrs Knight had a fantastic time creating their own pizzas as well. Our delicious pizzas were served and we all tucked in and, although Harvey struggled with his mountains of cheese, the rest of the pizzas were demolished in record time!
After a big thank you to the wonderful staff at Pizza Express in Lytham, we left to buy our own puddings. We walked to Greggs and had to choose an item that was within our budget. Having completed this task, we walked to the beach where we ate our cakes and biscuits.
Our final task was to create something using the sand. What a talented bunch we are! A truly incredible kingdom complete with tunnel was created by Fenn, Matthew, Harvey and Ben; a patch of grass was turned into a wizard by Gracie and Isabelle; a Spartan shield and spear was made by Grace and Alex; a turtle by Imogen; a fortress built by Madeleine; but by far the best example of cross curricular learning was the Greek Amphitheatre built into the side of the sand by Sally. Finally we returned to the train station and caught the train, returning to school.
As Matthew said, "it was absolutely the bestest trip EVER!" A very big thank you goes to Mrs Hine, Mrs Cretney and Mrs Cowburn for all their help.
