Hockey Tour 2009
Last weekend fifteen of our Year 5 and 6 girls travelled to Stockport and Cheadle Hulme for our annual hockey tour.
After lunch in school we set off for our first matches at Stockport Grammar. In the A team game Arnold took an early lead through Jade Yarwood. However it was clear that the home side were a quality outfit and they took the lead by half time with two well taken goals. Although Arnold created chances in the second half Stockport continued to play some excellent hockey and they added three further goals to leave them as 5-1 victors. This scoreline was a little harsh on the Arnold girls as they contributed to an attractive game of hockey. In the B team game Arnold proved to be the stronger team in the first half with Olivia Adams and Millie Haythornthwaite giving them a 2-0 advantage at the interval. Stockport fought back in the second half and pulled a goal back but Arnold held on for a 2-1 win.
After the matches we travelled to a local hotel for an enjoyable evening meal. This was followed by lots of fun at the Grand Central swimming baths in Stockport. Racing Mr Hodgkinson down the water slides proved to be very popular and after all of the hockey and this, the girls were tired and ready for bed!! A good nights sleep, and then a filling breakfast set the girls up for more hockey matches at Cheadle Hulme School.
The A team game against Cheadle proved to be a different affair with the Arnold girls playing some good passing hockey enabling them to create many chances. In a 40 minute game of four quarters Arnold managed to score four goals with Cammie Spector scoring one and Jade Yarwood bagging a hat-trick. And if it wasn't for fine goalkeeping from the Cheadle goalie the score would have been more. Our B team played two games with the first, against Cheadle, ending in a 0-0 draw. Arnold had more of the possession but could not find a winning goal. In their second game the girls played Alderley Edge school's A team and although they tried hard they ended the tour with a 4-1 defeat. Lucy Rigby must be congratulated for playing well at sweeper and Millie Haythornthwaite scored a fine individual goal.
After a thoroughly enjoyable weekend of hockey the girls finished the morning off with some lunch in the Cheadle dining hall. All of the girls must be thanked for representing the school well both on and off the pitch, and Mr Hodgkinson would like to thank Mrs Cole, Mrs Foster and Caitlin for their valuable support on the trip!
