Mr Ashcroft attended Arnold as a pupil before returning to teach geography. He has been heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, and has taken numerous trips abroad, either with the Geography Department or through his involvement with Social Services, which he organised for many years.

As well as teaching geography, Mr Ashcroft has been an officer in the CCF since 1980. He is now Contingent Commander, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
