Hard Spell
This week children in Years 7 and 8 have notched up an impressive list of correctly spelt words as they battled it out to gain the Hard Spell title.
The final sixteen who made it through to the house teams had to fight off stiff competition from many other pupils. Indeed, throughout the preliminary rounds, the English Department has been very impressed by pupils' standard of spelling and, more importantly, their enthusiasm.
In the semi-finals on Tuesday competitors from Listons beat those from School House. Listons were represented by Megan Bruce, Isobel Clark, Simran Singh and Anish Verma; School by Jacob Ingham Gore, Michael Smith, Eleanor Greenhalgh and Clifford Price. Well done to all involved.
In the second semi-final on Wednesday Penningtons were victorious against Howarths. The competitors were Harry Wilde, Fatima Safri, Ishani Ghosh and Rachel Hyde for Penningtons and Natasha Dagger, Anna Marsland, Asim Iqbal and Jack Bottomley for Howarths. This meant that Penningtons played Listons in the final.
The closely fought contest between Penningtons and Listons remained tied until the last few rounds when Penningtons managed to inch ahead and gain a sweep of correctly spelt words. Well done to all involved.
