Win at Westholme not the best
The hockey teams were in action against Stockport GS this weekend. An excellent team performance and a goal in each half gave the 1st XI a very satisfying 2-0 win against strong opposition. Arnold's first goal was a superb penalty corner strike into the corner of the net by Georgina Read. The second goal, early in the second half came from good team play. Rachel Fackey provided the perfect through ball for Harley Greene to run on to and shoot at goal. The goalkeeper saved but Lily Taylor was on hand to score from the rebound.
The 2nd XI girls were also on fine form winning their game 5-0. In a good team performance, they were always first to the ball and had much of the possession. Annie Gillis passed the ball well in midfield whilst player of the match, Faye Shearer, was unstoppable on the right. Katie Ashcroft scored a hatrick and the other goals came from Faye and Chloe Stafford.
A good first half display saw the U15 team play some entertaining hockey and take a 2-0 lead at half time. The first goal was scored by Rachel Fackey and the second goal came from Ceri Armit. Stockport came back strongly in the second half, but Arnold defended well to keep their lead. Heather Bottomley and Rachel worked hard in midfield whilst player of the match Aimy Barrow defended well in the middle of the field.
The U14 team completely dominated their game, winning by 9 goals to 0. Captain, Sophie Akhtar was player of the match and the goalscorers were Lydia Wright (2), Leora Hyman (2), Meghan Fearn (2), Hannah Hesketh and Charlotte Evans.
In another one sided game, the U13 team won 7-1. There was some attacking play with all the goals coming from good crosses from the wings. Goalscorers were Courtney Spector (2), Jessica Omassoli (2), Emily Adams and Emily Owen. The final goal was an own goal.
The second half of the U12A team game proved to be very exciting. Despite being 3-1 down at half time, they battled hard in the second half, hitting the post and forcing two excellent saves from the opposition keeper. Molly Betmead got on the end of a Francesca Beeby shot to grab a goal back for Arnold. Arnold's first half goal came from a blistering Francesca Beeby shot.
A hatrick from Abigail Richardson gave the U12B team an impressive 3-1 victory in their game. Polly Carr was impressive in midfield, whilst Charlotte Tighe, who was making her debut as a goalkeeper, made some vital saves.
