Our hockey teams got their season off to a great start coming out on top in all but two of their matches against local rivals Kirkham GS.
The 1st XI game proved to be a close affair with both teams creating chances and Arnold keeper Katie Ashcroft making some vital saves. Arnold had much more possession in the second half and their efforts led to a Georgina Read goal from a penalty corner. This proved to be the only goal of the game giving Arnold a satisfying 1-0 win in a closely contested game. Elizabeth Thorp was inspirational on the left and Aimie Knighton worked hard to hold the midfield.
The 2nd XI game was end to end with Kirkham taking the lead in the first half. Camilla Dunlop played a key role in midfield whilst Faye Shearer made some penetrating runs on the right wing. Emily Taylor gave Arnold got their well deserved equaliser with a fine reverse stick sweep strike, with ten minutes to go in the game.
Despite working hard throughout the game, our U15A team were always under pressure and eventually lost their game 2-0 with both Kirkham's goals both coming in the last ten minutes of the game. Goalkeeper Roxanne Reynolds was outstanding and there were also good displays from sweeper Jenny Carpenter and Rachel Fackey who almost grabbed a consolation goal for Arnold in the dying minutes of the game.
Two first half goals from the 15B team gave them a 2-0 win. The first goal came from Charlotte Box and the second goal from Roxanna Malihi -Shoja. Catriona Waktare and Nikita Wild played well in midfield, whilst Meg Kearney worked hard in defence.
A Charlotte Evans hatrick helped the U14A team win their game 4-1. In a game that was much closer than the score line suggests, goalkeeper Eleni Cullen made some good saves. Despite being marked closely throughout the game, Holly Monteiro managed to score Arnold's fourth goal as well as setting up two of the others.
A fine performance from our U14B team gave them a decisive 3-0 win. The goalscorers were:- Chloe Mc.Conville, Lily Helme and Gina Studholme. Midfield player Rosie Craven was player of the match.
An excellent morning of hockey was rounded off with another 3-0 win, this time from the U13 team who were playing in their first full sided game. An on-form Emily Adams always looked dangerous and scored one of the goals. The other goals came from Emily Owen and Courtney Spector.
