Junior Hockey v Rossall

On Friday our junior hockey team played a home fixture against Rossall School. It proved to be an outstanding game of hockey in difficult conditions and both teams should be congratulated for the entertainment they provided for both sets of supporters.

The game started at a frantic pace and within a few minutes of the start, slack marking in the Arnold defence allowed Rossall to take an early lead. However the home side started to put together some lovely passing moves, and an excellent break away run by Isabelle Woodman, and her cool finish as the keeper came off her line, led to the Arnold equaliser. Further chances were created by both sides but the half came to an end with the score at 1-1.

The second half continued to be a very open end to end game with plenty more goals scored. Arnold were first to score after the break with excellent play from Ella Ross down the right setting up Isabelle for a finish at the far post. However Rossall fought back with an excellent goal themselves, to level the game again. With captain Mollie Mason starting to dominate play in the middle, it wasn’t long before Arnold regained the lead with Ella again getting behind the defence to set up Mollie to make it 3-2. Arnold kept opening up the Rossall defence but they couldn’t find the fourth goal to seal the game, and another break away from Rossall and slack marking again led to Rossall scoring to make it 3-3. With time running out, Mollie broke in to the Rossall D. She powered a superb shot into the corner of the net to give Arnold victory. The girls must be praised, not just for the excellent hockey, but their determination to win the game.

Final Score: Arnold 4 Rossall 3

Well played girls!
