Troglodyte, claustrophobia and apocalypse. This week children in Years 7 and 8 have notched up an impressive list of correctly spelt words as they battled it out to gain the school Hard Spell title.
The final sixteen who made it through to the house teams had to fight off stiff competition from many other pupils. Indeed, throughout the preliminary rounds, the English Department have been very impressed by pupils' standard of spelling and, more importantly, their enthusiasm.
In the semi-finals on Tuesday and Wednesday, Penningtons beat Howarths and School triumphed against Listons.
This meant that Penningtons played School in the final on Thursday. It was a closely fought competition, however, Alexander Atherton, Sophie Glassock and Lucy Dale of School managed to inch ahead by four points in the final round. The final score was School 21 - Penningtons 19.
School (1st) | Penningtons (2nd) | Listons (3rd) | Howarths (3rd) |
Alexander Atherton Molly Betmead Sophie Glassock Lucy Dale | Ishani Ghosh Fatima Safri Will Jepson Michael Hatton | Emily Brooks Anish Verma Jade Tsang Emily Harrison | Anna Marsland Natasha Dagger Alex Bamber Jessica Omassoli |
