Another exciting day at Glaramara!
Glaramara Day 1
Dear Children,
We have had a fantastic day! We left school at 9.30am and were at Glaramara by 11.45am. The journey was really quick; we all chatted to each other and told stories. When we got there it was time for our packed lunch. I had ham sandwiches, and a little run around. Then we were shown to our rooms and had a quick fire practice so we would know what to do if the alarm went off.
Then the fun began!! We were put into groups and told what to wear for our activities. One group went for a walk, another went gorge scrambling and two groups went off to climb or abseil. One group did something called 'Via Ferrata', which I had never heard of before! The final two groups went to the lake. One group went in a huge canoe, all eight children with Mr Coyne and an instructor in one big boat. They went up the lake to 'Goose Poo Island'. The name sounded funny and we giggled a lot when they told us but really it was very interesting because they got to see the goose eggs in their real nest. It won't be long before they hatch and then the geese leave the lake and fly away.
The kayaking group had a great time. They said the best bit was when they played a game called 'stuck in the mud' which is like tig but in kayaks. They said that they were in two man kayaks and Miss Wright and the instructor were 'on'.
The climbing and abseiling groups both told me that they had loads of teamwork practice and that some of them had had to face their fears to take part but were glad they had done so, because they really enjoyed it and were ever so proud of themselves!
When the Via Ferrata group got back they explained that it had been a traverse activity based on World War II army manoeuvres. I found that a bit difficult to understand but one of the Year 6 pupils said although he had been a bit nervous when he started, when he finished he gave it 10 out of 10!
The gorge walk group said the water was freezing cold and there were some bits that were tricky so they were really proud of themselves, especially as they got Mr Storey very wet!!!
The walking group had a lovely walk with a little game of 'put your waterproofs on, take your waterproofs off', which was inflicted on them by the changeable weather.
When we got back we had dinner which was yummmmeeee. The sticky toffee pudding was described as being "great" and the chocolate and vanilla mouse was "spectacular." After fun and games on the field and bingo with hot chocolate, the children trundled off to bed and are now all sound asleep. Which is were I should be if I want to do more exciting activities tomorrow.
