Admissions

Application is made by completing the Registration Form available from the Admissions Secretary, Laura Rogers. She can be contacted by email on lrogers@arnoldschool.com or by telephone on 01253 346391.

All applications must be accompanied by a Registration Fee of £30.

Families are welcome to visit the school, meet the Principal or the Headmaster of the Junior School and see the school in action on either Open Morning or Open Evening, or alternatively by making an individual appointment. Such visits usually last between 1 and 2 hours. Open Morning is held in the early Autumn. The Senior School also holds an Open Evening in November and the Junior School holds a similar event on a Saturday morning in March.

The Kindergarten (2+ Entry)

Parents are encouraged to visit the Kindergarten, to meet the manager, and view the facilities. Application for a place is made by completing and returning the admission form contained within the prospectus. Early application is encouraged. We welcome all enquiries, whether by telephone, letter, fax or email.

The Junior School (4+ Entry)

Admission to the Junior School is either by an assessment morning (Key Stage One) or assessment day (Key Stage Two), during which time ability and potential are gauged through tests and teacher observations.

Year 7 (11+ Entry)
The Entrance Examination is held in January prior to entry in September. It consists of papers in English and Maths and a non-verbal reasoning test. Places are offered soon afterwards and acceptance is normally required by mid February. Pupils transferring from Arnold Junior School are not required to sit the Entrance Examination unless they wish to be considered for an academic scholarship. However, they must meet the general criteria for admission, the decision being based on satisfactory school reports.

Lower Sixth (16+ Entry)
A number of students join the Sixth Form each year from other schools. The minimum requirement is 5 GCSE passes at Grade C and places are offered on the basis of the current school’s predictions. Academic standards are high and students are expected to have a minimum of Grade B in the subjects they intend to study at AS/A2 level. All external candidates are interviewed and must provide a satisfactory school report.

Ad Hoc Places
Very few of these are available each year. Applicants are required to sit examinations in English and Mathematics and a non verbal reasoning test. Admission is also subject to receipt of a satisfactory school report. All ad hoc entrants are interviewed by the Principal or a senior member of staff.
