We were entertained this month by Alan Schofield of 'Growing-with-nature', on his life and times.
He swiftly glossed over his time at Arnold School which 32 years ago was then all boys', and went on to talk passionately about how he became involved with organic farming, and the men who influenced his current farming practices.
He produces a wide variety of salad and vegetables at his Pilling farm, which he sells in the Lancashire and Cheshire area and delivers to the general public on the Fylde coast via his website. He touched on the commercial side of organic farming and why organic food costs more against mass production, where a cocktail of chemicals are often used.
At the end of his talk Alan opened the floor to questions which allowed many of us to seek advice on things, like how to stop the caterpillars and rabbits eating our vegetables!
