Economics
If you believe the saying that 'money makes the world go around' then studying Economics is a very useful asset. It is a social science and therefore spans the divide between the Arts and Sciences.
Economics is something that we come across in our everyday lives and as such can be very interesting. It affects so much of what we do. Economics can be studied at A level and provides a good basis for a variety of careers. It has increased in popularity during recent years and many students now go on to study Economics and related courses at University.
It is not often that pupils can study a subject that is mentioned in the media every day, and that has so much relevance to modern living.

Business Studies
Business Studies is not only an essential subject for those wishing to pursue a career in business, management or a related area, but is also a useful subject for all students who will ultimately work within an organisation or establish their own business.
Business Studies covers a wealth of business related topics such as the types of ownership, finance, objectives, leadership styles, motivation and pay, marketing, accounting and stock and quality control. It is a popular subject with many students going on to study Business Studies or related courses at university.
Business Studies is primarily available as an A level subject, however, in order to give students the opportunity to experience the subject within KS4, the department offers the GCSE Business Studies Short course (equivalent to half of a GCSE qualification) as an extra-curricular activity in Years 10 and 11. For more information on this see the curriculum overview link below.
Two members of staff are involved in the delivery of Business Studies: Mrs Donald and Mr McIntyre.
There is no requirement to have studied Business Studies at GCSE before embarking on the subject at A Level however the short course is a popular option with many students.
