U14B win the Wyre & Fylde Cricket League
Arnold School was the venue for the final of the Year 9 Wyre & Fylde Cricket League. With lots of boys away on trips, a much changed U14B team took to the field but they were in wonderful form for this match against Lytham HS U14A.
Captain of this year's U14B, Simran Singh, opened the batting with Alex Vowles-Bradley, and they raced to 51-0 after 5 overs. Vowles-Bradley was eventually well caught for 28 (from 18 balls) and Singh soon followed for an impressive 25 as Arnold were 81-2 after 8 overs. Tyne Davis was well caught on the boundary for a duck as the good Arnold start had suddenly stuttered with 3 wickets in just 10 balls. Elliott Fackey and Matthew Swallow repaired the damage with a patient 5 overs but when they were both out it was left to Jamal Ghani to set Lytham a big total.
Jamal scored 30 not out, with one of his covers drives the shot of the day, as the U14B finished on 175-5.
The Arnold bowlers now took over, with all the boys who had not batted being given the chance to shine with the ball. Tom Pennington, such a loyal B team cricketer over the last three years, opened the bowling and he produced his best ever bowling display as he took 3-14 in a wonderful 4 over spell. Craig Nettleton grabbed a wicket as he beat the bat to rmove the Lytham opener and then it was the turn of Will Nickson, 2-4, and Sam Hopkins, 2-11, to skittle the Lytham boys out.
Two excellent run outs, both involving Nickson, saw Lytham all out for 47 as Arnold won by 128 runs in a very, very impressive bowling, fielding and batting performance. Singleton and Smith were the pick of the Lytham bowlers, with Adams batting very well also.
