Head of Department: I J Morton
As you might imagine in a school founded in 1886, the Classics Department has been around for a long time! Pupils always enjoy the stories of Roman Britain, background studies of Pompeii, Roman history and learning a bit of Latin. Many also enjoy enacting Classical stories and recently members of all year groups performed Hippolytus by Euripides in the Drama Studio for several nights. Greek is an extra curricular ‘club’ for invited pupils who already study GCSE Latin. Whenever possible, pupils are encouraged to take part in international trips, usually to Italy and Greece. Closer to home the sites of Hadrian's Wall, Ribchester and Bath are often visited. The language may be dead, but not the department!
