Chemistry
Head of Department: Mrs M Thornton
The Chemistry department is situated in a central location within the main school buildings. It has three subject specific laboratories, and one laboratory resourced to allow the teaching of Chemistry and KS3 Science. With an ongoing programme of refurbishment the facilities compare favourably with similar schools.
In 1993 Old Arnoldian, Dr Michael Smith was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, the highest honour in this field of science. Achievements such as this have helped to strengthen the reputation that Arnold has for science and many still go on to study the subject at university.
