After finishing my university studies, which included working in Germany for a year, I moved to Cumbria and completed my PGCE qualification with St Martin's College. From one teaching practice in a school with fewer than 200 pupils I secured my first appointment in one with nearly 2000 pupils and by the time I left Lytham St Annes High I was Head of German and Deputy in Modern Languages.
I accepted the post as Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Arnold in 2000 and the department saw many changes during my tenure, all of which have established a strong foundation for future development. For the latter part of this period I was also the school's Professional Mentor, which involved helping and guiding both trainee and newly qualified teachers.
In 2008 I took up the position of Director of Studies, which includes specific responsibilities for managing what we teach at Arnold and how it is taught, as well as working closely with all colleagues to try and ensure that each individual pupil achieves their personal potential at school.
