Glaramara Day 5
A fantastic achievement
What a wonderful few days we had at the end of last week when our U14 hockey team became national champions.
I couldn't get to Cannock Hockey Club for the first day but I was able to clear my diary on Thursday and be with them; I was so glad!
When I arrived there was a chance we might make the play offs for third place but two great performances from us and other results going our way meant that we found ourselves in the final at the end of the second day. And what a match it was.
Like most of the parents and other supporters I was a nervous wreck at the end of normal time and the prospect of a penalty shoot out was almost too much to bear. I would have settled for a shared trophy at that stage.....
However, our girls are made of sterner stuff and they held their nerve to come through with flying colours. Well done to every single one of them. Having come so close so many times in the past it is also so good that Andrea DeMiranda and her fellow coaches can finally claim to have prepared the top school side in England. This success is richly deserved and has come about because a talented group of players were prepared to work very, very hard to achieve their goal.
Very many thanks to all those parents and other supporters that made the event such fun and special thanks to Jeff & Elaine Spector for their sponsorship of the team.
I returned to school to find that our boys had done really well in the Arnold 7s and that their day had included victories over Kirkham, KEQMS and several other local schools. Well done to them.
On top of all this we also learned on Friday that our ICT inspection had been very successful indeed. Perhaps next week will be a little quieter?
Kind regards
Barry Hughes
