Some superb events still to come

In last week's blog I talked about learning outside the classroom and anticipated our Junior School Science Week and several other events. These all went splendidly and I encourage you to look at the stories on the website to get a flavour of things.

Not too depressed by England's poor showing so far in the World Cup, we are continuing in this theme and over the next two weeks all the Year 7 children will have a residential visit to our outdoor adventure centre, Almond Lodge near Glenridding in the Lake District.   Set in beautiful countryside, the lodge is a great base for all kinds of exciting activities.  The children always have a good time and often remember it for many years afterwards, especially if the sun shines as it is likely to do this week.

Last week's welcome evening for new Year 7 pupils and their parents went really well and we seem to have recruited more talented and pleasant children. It will be good to hear of their progress in the years to come.

Today we are holding interviews for the new Head of the Junior School. As soon as I have some news of this important appointment I shall be sure to let parents know.

We are entering the final few days of public examinations and if GCSE and A level students have not yet finished exams they will surely do so soon. Good luck to them all. Instructions and guidance for collecting results have already been sent to parents but there will also be reminders in the forthcoming end of term mailing.

There are some splendid occasions coming up and it would be great to see you at the Junior or Senior School Summer Concerts, Swing in the Park, the two Celebration Days or any of the other events.  Having said that, I have been to so many functions over the last few days that my voice has given up and I am having to work in monastic silence. This probably comes as a relief to my colleagues and to the children!
