November 16th
It has been an incredibly busy few days at Arnold. Last week saw another very well attended Open Evening; as ever, our young guides were excellent and I had several complimentary comments about just how impressive they had been.
This was followed by two events for Year 11 - the normal Parents' Evening and Looking Ahead, the 6th Form options event. Throw in two Remembrance Services, a visit to Lincoln Cathedral for our singers, several Junior School trips, a Senior Teatime Concert and the usual busy sports programme in both the Senior and Junior School and you can start to see why a two week break at half term is a good idea!
I am sure you will also be interested to know that the Girls' choir recently entered the "BBC Song of Praise School Choir of the Year Competition" and we have heard that from over 200 secondary schools who entered, our choir has been chosen as one of 6 schools from the whole of the UK to go into the semi finals. Three schools will now be chosen to go forward for the televised final. At some point during the next two weeks, the BBC will visit the school to film and work with the choir. This is a great achievement and we look forward to the next stage.
The end of next week will see a two day inspection by representatives of UCST, which we expect to go well. Don't be surprised if your children tell you that they had visitors in their lessons.
Two of my colleagues remain away from school on long term sick leave. Mr Snell is still at home recovering from the heart attack he sustained in July and Dr Young is also likely to be away for a few more weeks. Arrangements will be made to ensure that their extended absence causes as little disruption as possible.
Our end of term production, Oliver, is progressing very well indeed and we expect tickets to sell out. If you want to see the show and have not yet got a ticket, please do so soon. They are available from Mrs Kathryn Holt in the General Office.
All good wishes
Barry Hughes
