Examinations are upon us
April 24th
Welcome to the first entry in our new blog. We shall use the blog to keep you up to date with news and to draw things to your attention. If there is anything you would like to respond to then feel free to do so by emailing us through the website.
This week we welcomed Mr Tony Stuart to the senior school art department to provide cover for Mrs Caunce during her maternity leave. We were all delighted that her new baby, Richard Adam, arrived safely over the holiday.
We ended an excellent Spring term with one of our major highlights of the year, the choral concert. Handel's Messiah was magnificent and thanks must go to the musicians and singers and, of course, to the many parents and friends who took part.
Year 11 and 6th Form students received reports over the holiday with plenty of good advice about revision and examination preparation. In assembly on Tuesday I emphasised how important it was for pupils to consult staff for guidance and I trust that they will take advantage of this as we approach the period of study leave for our public examination candidates. The BBC has worked very closely with schools and examination boards, and has come up with an online guide to GCSE revision called Bitesize. The entire Bitesize website contains revision notes and tests for 17 subjects and is certainly worth a visit. Much more information and links to many useful sites are given on the student links page (see below).
If last term was busy, then the holiday was busier still for the many pupils who took part in one of the trips organized by the staff. Not only did we have a cricket tour to the Caribbean but the classicists visited Italy, the geologists visited Spain and the cadets spent time at Almond Lodge doing adventure training. Well done to all involved and many thanks to the staff for making these opportunities possible.
I have emphasised to the pupils that in a term dominated by exams it more important than ever to find the time to do other things and so I hope to see them adopt their normal busy approach to sport, drama, music and the other activities available.
Kind regards
Barry Hughes
