Masterclass Glass
Our 6th Form artists recently visited Glasform, the Singleton studio of John Ditchfield who is an extraordinary glassworker whose pieces are becoming increasingly more collectable. Much of his work is in the manner of Master glass artist, Louis Comfort Tiffany and, in fact, there is a large display of John's work alongside the enormous Tiffany collection housed in the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington.
The highly skilled craft of glassmaking used at Glassform started nearly 6000 years ago. From those ancient beginnings various civilisations developed different techniques, which have been handed down to a small number of present day artists.
Our students had the unique opportunity to watch John create unique artwork from beginning to end. The students were amazed and inspired, watching John's fascinating demonstration and having the opportunity to talk with him about his work.
