Dr Treharne studied Biological Sciences at the University of Birmingham and followed this with a PhD in Biometrical Genetics. His first teaching post was at Handsworth Grammar School where he was a Housemaster.
He joined Arnold School in 1998; he teaches biology and has taught chemistry and design & technology. He is Officer Commanding of the Combined Cadet Force Army Section.
Actively involved in biology education at a national level he is a member of the British Biology Olympiad Committee, the Institute of Biology's Education and Training Board and AQA's Subject Advisory Committee for biology. This year he launched a national competition for Year 9 and Year 10 pupils called the Biology Challenge and was elected to the Court of the University of Birmingham.
