Excerpts from a Headmaster's In-Tray
Arnold's record breaking examination success
With the end of the summer holiday fast approaching, I am looking forward to the start of the new school year but, for those of you who have not visited www.arnoldschool.com over the last few weeks, I thought you would like to know about Arnold's record breaking A Level and GCSE examination results.
With more than three quarters of grades being A* to B, our Upper Sixth pupils were rightly proud of the school's best ever A level results. Nearly 50% of all grades were at either A or A* and, as a result, our students will soon be heading off to some of the country's top universities. At a time when universities are looking to recruit only the brightest and the best students, I am particularly delighted that one in four of our pupils attained at least three A grades and over 16% of Arnold's grades were A*s.
At GCSE, more than 61% of our grades were at either A* or A, and nearly a third of the year group achieved a straight set of A grades. This stellar performance by our Year 11 pupils gave us our best ever GCSE results by a considerable margin. With over 85% of all grades being A* to B, Arnold pupils of all abilities achieved significantly higher grades when compared to national baseline predictions for pupils of similar abilities.
Well done everyone.
My colleagues and I found it most satisfying to see our students returning to school to collect their examination results; we shared their delight in their academic achievements. I enjoyed speaking to many Year 11 students who are clearly looking forward to the start of their Sixth Form careers and the challenge of ASs and A2s.
I hope that you and your family have enjoyed a relaxing summer, and I look forward to meeting many of you again during the first few weeks of term.
Best wishes
